He stared at the basement, a dark, damp space he’d been planning to convert into a home theater. A chill ran through him as the neighbor told him the house’s history. The house, the scene of… a terrible event. He pictured the shadows, the silence, the unseen things. He’d been so excited about the project, the possibilities.

He felt the blood drain from his face, leaving him feeling cold and pale. He swallowed hard, trying to keep down his nausea. The air in the basement felt thick, suffocating. He backed away slowly, as if the space was a predator.
