He cleared his throat, the sound unusually loud in the almost-empty staff room. "For you, Mr. Henderson." The former student, now a hulking adult, offered a framed drawing: a crude but recognizable caricature of Henderson, clutching a chalk stick, his tie askew. A nervous giggle escaped Henderson's lips, followed by a cough that sounded more like a strangled sob. He remembered the student as a particularly mischievous boy, one he'd often had to reprimand for drawing in his textbook. The drawing's sheer honesty, the reminder of those past transgressions, rendered him speechless.
