“This can’t be happening,” I whispered, the words catching in my throat. I’d spent years dreaming of this school. I’d seen myself walking those hallowed halls, attending classes, making friends, becoming *someone*. Now? The world swam before my eyes.

I felt a coldness wash over me, a chilling numbness that started in my toes and spread throughout my body. My hands were shaking so badly I could barely hold my phone.
