Gemotions

The flowers were hydrangeas, her favourite. Violet and pink, a cheerful explosion of color. Amelia clutched the vase, her hands shaking. There was no note. This wasn't happening. Her current boyfriend, David, had said he dislikes hydrangeas. And she hadn't met anyone new.

She felt a wave of dizziness. She'd been so careful. So cautious. A slow dread began to seep into her bones. She placed the flowers on her dining room table. They were beautiful, yes, but also a symbol of something… embarrassing.

She paced. She called her sister. Then a friend. They were as bewildered as she was. Then she started looking up her old ex-boyfriends, to see if they were married or currently dating anyone.

She finally texted David. "Did you send me flowers?" The three dots of the "typing" symbol appeared. And then disappeared. She waited.
