The discovery sent a wave of icy panic through Leo. The time capsule, now exposed to the world, felt like a gaping wound. He'd found it while clearing out his parents' garage, buried deep within a forgotten corner. The lid was slightly ajar, revealing a flash of color.

He pulled out the contents: a worn, dog-eared copy of a novel he'd obsessed over as a teenager, a mix CD with a tracklist he vaguely remembered, and a journal. He flipped open the journal, and his skin prickled. The first entry was a detailed account of his crush on a girl he hadn't thought about in twenty years.

He slammed the journal shut. He didn’t want to see it, he didn’t want to read it. He wanted to forget the entire thing.
