“Well, this is just great,” Maya muttered under her breath. The time capsule, uncovered during a landscaping project, was a gaudy, glitter-covered shoebox. The handwriting on the label was unmistakably hers. "Open When You're Famous!" it declared.

She sat on the grass, the box in her lap. Inside, there was a collection of bizarre artifacts: a sequined scarf, a poorly-written poem, and a cassette tape. She ejected the tape and put it into her car stereo, which was in view of the workers. A shaky voice, her own, began to sing a truly awful song about her life.

She turned the volume down and quickly switched it off. She wanted to run and hide.
