Gemotions

The vibrant colors of the drawings mocked her. They depicted a creature with a single, massive horn and four arms. It was a replica of what she had imagined as a child. A childhood friend. Her niece, Chloe, clearly knew her companion, too.

She ran a hand across her forehead. How could this be? It was impossible. She felt a pressure in her chest, a tight knot. She felt a need to understand.

“Chloe, who is this in your drawing?” she asked, trying to keep her voice steady. Chloe smiled, showing a missing tooth. “That’s Uni! He gives me magical powers.”

Her mind reeled. She felt a tremor in her hands. She excused herself, retreating to the bathroom, needing a moment to collect herself.
