The request had arrived on a Tuesday morning. An innocuous email, with a subject line that seemed straightforward enough: "Training Handover." Emily felt a strange sense of… unease. It settled in her stomach like a cold stone.

She had worked in this department for a decade, seen people come and go. But this… this felt different. She hadn't seen this coming. She was supposed to be the one who knew the ropes. Now, she was going to have to explain them to someone else.

She watched the new recruit walk in, a young woman with bright eyes and a bouncy ponytail. Emily felt suddenly, inexplicably, weary. The bright morning outside the window was suddenly replaced by a confusing shadow. She pointed to a chair. "So, where do you want to start?"
