Gemotions

The office air conditioning was blasting, but Sarah felt a flush creep up her neck. Her palms were clammy. This wasn’t how it was supposed to play out. She was the best. Or, at least, that's what she had always told herself. Now, she was supposed to show someone else how to do her job.

Her replacement, a man named Kevin, sat opposite her, his expression eager. He was tapping a pen on the desk. She looked at her carefully assembled notes, the bullet points outlining her daily routines, and she felt a confusing jumble within.

She opened her mouth, but only a small sound escaped. “Right… so… the first thing is the… the reports.” She gestured vaguely toward the computer screen, a knot forming in her throat. She found herself struggling to find the next words.
