The gym felt strangely empty. Coach Miller's usual booming voice, his whistle, and his encouragement were gone. Across the hall, his office door was closed. A simple sign, hand-written, was the only indication: "Retired – Thanks for everything."

Jason felt a weight settle on his shoulders as he gazed at the vacant space where his mentor had always been. A wave of bewilderment washed over him. His upcoming competition seemed meaningless now. The future looked oddly murky.

He went through the motions of his training routine, but his heart wasn’t in it. His movements felt clumsy, his energy drained. He couldn’t shake the sense of an ending he hadn't foreseen, a plot twist he hadn't prepared for.
