Gemotions

The coffee mug slipped from Sarah’s grasp, shattering on the kitchen floor. The loud crack jolted her, but it did little to distract her from the glaring absence outside her window. Her minivan, the one she used to ferry the kids to school and soccer practice, was not there.

She dropped to her knees, picking up the larger shards of the mug, her movements robotic. Her mind was a whirlwind of disjointed thoughts, grasping at any possible explanation. Did she park it somewhere else? No. She would remember. Had she forgotten some rule? Impossible.

A sense of unease settled on her, a feeling of being disconnected from reality. She looked out at the empty expanse of her driveway, and a shiver ran down her back. Everything felt off-kilter.
