The chill wind whipped around Amelia, making her shiver despite the warmth of her coat. Her station wagon, her family's reliable vehicle for years, was gone. Vanished. She'd been inside for barely an hour.

She stood frozen, her hands clasped tightly in front of her. Her mind raced. Had she imagined parking it there? Had she sleepwalked and moved it? A knot of confusion tightened in her stomach, making her feel queasy.

She walked back inside, leaning against the doorframe, trying to gather her thoughts. This felt like a glitch in the world, something illogical and inexplicable. A feeling of dread began to wash over her.
