Gemotions

The air in the spare bedroom was stale and heavy. Sam pulled open the lid of the box marked "Sam - Elementary School." He inhaled sharply. His gaze fixed on a neatly folded construction paper snowman, adorned with cotton ball snow.

He remembered making the snowman. He remembered the satisfaction of completing the task. He also recalled his mother's vague smile when she first saw the creation. He'd thought she was proud. Now, looking at the remnants of his childhood, he had second thoughts. Why?

He felt a sudden chill, despite the warm air in the room. He ran his hand across his arm, goosebumps rising. The collection of papers felt like some kind of...evidence.
