He ran a hand through his hair, leaving it standing on end. The online journal article, the one he’d poured months into, was live. Except, it wasn't *his* article. The byline belonged to a Dr. Emily Carter, a name he'd never encountered before.

A prickling sensation crawled up his neck, making him want to scratch. The cafe around him, usually a source of comforting background noise, now seemed to thrum with a discordant hum. He re-read the introduction, each word a cold, hard stone in his gut.

He clicked on Dr. Carter's profile, a desperate attempt to find some explanation, some clue. Nothing. A blank page. He felt an urge to shout, to break something, to somehow make this impossible situation disappear.
