Gemotions

"Impossible," she murmured, the word barely a whisper. The journal website, her professional life, her livelihood, all seemed to be mocking her. The article, her article, was there, pristine and published, but the byline was…wrong. Utterly, completely wrong.

Her chest felt tight, constricted. She leaned back in her chair, staring at the ceiling as if expecting answers to fall from the plaster. She felt a need to pace, to move, to somehow dispel the strange, unsettling feeling that had taken root within her.

She rose, and walked towards the window, but stopped abruptly. Her own reflection, stared back at her with a blank expression.
