The office air suddenly felt thick, almost suffocating. David stared at the printout, his carefully formatted research paper now bearing a different author's name. A hot wave washed over him, leaving him feeling unsteady.

He reread the abstract, the introduction, the conclusion – every word his, every argument his, every painstaking hour dedicated to this project. How could this have happened? He felt a tremor in his hands, a sudden chill in his fingertips.

He needed answers. Now. He pushed back from his desk, the wheels of his chair squeaking in protest, and stalked towards the editor's office, a feeling of unease pressing down on him.
