He stared at the screen, the published article taunting him. His name, his years of work, usurped by a stranger. He felt a hollowness in his chest, a sense of…betrayal.

He stood up abruptly, the chair scraping against the floor. He needed air, needed to think. He felt a rising heat in his cheeks, his hands clenched into fists. He walked towards his bookshelf, pulled a book out at random and hurled it across the room.

He slumped back down onto the couch, the injustice of it all weighing him down. It wasn't fair. It was wrong. He felt utterly… off-balance.
