Liam slumped against the cold metal of the lockers, the silence of the empty locker room pressing in on him. His gut twisted, a knot of unease he couldn't loosen. He'd poured his heart and soul into these tryouts. The hours of drills, the aching muscles, the sacrifices... all for this. The coach's words echoed in his head, a jumbled mess of what he thought he'd heard. "Strong effort… potential…" But no mention of the team. He felt adrift, lost in a sea of unspoken reasons and unanswered questions. He kicked at a stray water bottle, the plastic clattering against the tiles.
