Gemotions

The air in the office suddenly seemed heavy. Marcus was seated, staring at the numbers, and the world seemed to tilt. The new guy, who had trouble operating the coffee machine, was making more. He'd been with the firm for a decade, and was still below the threshold of his junior colleague.

He felt lightheaded, his vision blurring. He pushed away from his desk. He headed for the break room, desperately needing some air, some escape. He stared out the window, at the busy street below, at the world moving on, oblivious to the turmoil inside him.

The coffee machine seemed mocking. He leaned against the counter, feeling a sense of unreality wash over him. His future, his work. It all seemed to be changing, and he had no idea why.
