"Well, this is… something," Ben muttered, running a hand through his hair. His sister, Chloe, was already examining the faded wallpaper in the living room, a critical frown on her face. He just felt… confused.

The will had been clear: the house was theirs. But the house itself felt… wrong. Every room held a stillness that vibrated with unseen echoes. He wandered into the kitchen. The cabinets were filled with perfectly preserved jars of fruit preserves, each labeled with his grandmother’s meticulous handwriting.

He opened one jar. The scent was cloying, almost too sweet. He touched the contents, a thick, ruby-red jelly. It felt… off. He tasted a tiny spoonful. His eyes widened. He couldn’t quite place the flavour. It was familiar, and yet… completely foreign.

"Everything alright?" Chloe called from the hallway. He quickly screwed the jar shut, a nervous smile plastered on his face. "Just fine!" he replied, his voice a little too loud.
