"Can you believe this mess?" Mark exclaimed, his voice echoing in the cavernous dining room. His sister, Sarah, simply nodded, her eyes darting around the room, taking in every detail. She felt an odd sensation she couldn't place, a tingling in the back of her neck.

The dining table was covered with a white tablecloth, and set for a meal. Silverware gleamed in the dim light filtering through the dusty windows. It all looked like it had been waiting for them.

She walked over to the table and reached out to touch a plate. It felt cold, oddly cold, despite the room's stuffiness. She pulled her hand back as if burned. Why was it set? Who had set it? And when?

She tried to push it from her mind, but could not. She turned to Mark, but he was already gone, rummaging in the kitchen. She felt alone.
