Gemotions

The scent of lavender and old paper clung to the air in the library. James, the more practical of the siblings, was already considering the bookshelves, assessing the value of the books. His sister, Emily, however, was drawn to the antique writing desk in the corner.

She pulled out the chair and sat down. A single, leather-bound diary lay open on the desk. She hesitated, then picked it up. Her grandmother’s elegant script filled the pages, recounting daily events, trivial observations, and… strange, cryptic entries.

She began to read, her breath catching in her throat. The final entry, written in shaky hand, ended abruptly, mid-sentence. What had she been trying to say?

James called, "Find anything good?" Emily didn't answer. She knew she had to figure out what was left unsaid.
