"Hello?" The voice on the other end was a woman's, hesitant. Leo swallowed hard. He’d spent hours scouring the phone book, the address in the wallet his only lead. He’d found the wallet on the train, tucked beneath a seat. The amount of cash inside was staggering. He felt a profound sense of dislocation.

"I... I found something," he managed, his voice barely a whisper. There was a pause. He could almost hear her breathing on the other end. He explained his discovery, his words feeling clumsy and inadequate. The woman's reaction was a mixture of relief and disbelief. The exchange left him with more questions than answers.
