The cafeteria, usually a cacophony of chatter and clinking cutlery, felt eerily silent. Sarah pushed her untouched lunch around her plate, the mashed potatoes now looking distinctly unappetizing. She felt a knot in her throat. The scholarship money had paid for everything. Books. Food. Rent. Now, a slip-up, a lost file or misplaced paperwork, had thrown everything into jeopardy. She picked at a corner of her sandwich, the lettuce wilting. She felt the sudden urge to just close her eyes and forget this whole mess.
