The old trunk, heavy with the weight of years, yielded a treasure. Inside, tucked amongst faded photographs and forgotten trinkets, was a letter. Maya recognized her signature, the youthful flourishes of her teenage self. The letter was addressed to her younger sister, the sister she had once been so jealous of.

She stared, a strange sensation prickling at the back of her neck. The letter was a confession of resentment, of envy she’d carefully hidden. Her chest felt tight, her breathing shallow. She put the letter down and rubbed her eyes, trying to clear her head. The words felt like a riddle she couldn’t solve.
