Gemotions

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee, usually a source of comfort, now filled me with trepidation. My son, Finn, had taken over my coffee roasting operation, a process I had been perfecting for years. He was now obsessively charting every roast, every bean, every variable.

His workspace was a frenzy of data. Charts and graphs covered every inch of available space. He didn't even seem to notice me as I entered the room.

"Finn, are you sure this is all necessary?" I asked, feeling a strange mix of pride and apprehension.

He just shook his head, lost in his calculations. "Efficiency," he muttered, "it's all about efficiency."
