The air in the apartment felt thick, heavy. Sophie's announcement, delivered with a cheerful shrug, echoed in the otherwise quiet space. "Moving to New York! Fresh start, you know?" Clara’s mind struggled to make sense of the words.

She wandered over to the window and stared out at the street below, the familiar scene now looking distorted, somehow unreal. The mundane routine of the day, the errands and conversations, all felt foreign and distant. She felt adrift.

She turned back to Sophie, wanting to ask a hundred questions, but finding herself unable to articulate a single one. She felt adrift, lost at sea.
