The pizza, delivered just minutes ago, sat untouched on the coffee table. The cheesy smell, usually so enticing, now seemed acrid, unpleasant. John stared at the box. Adam, his best friend, was leaving for the army.

He rose and started pacing the apartment, restless energy pulsing through him. The walls seemed to close in, the air becoming thin and hard to breathe. He stopped in front of a mirror and stared at his own reflection, searching for answers he couldn’t find.

“But… when did you even decide this?” he finally asked, his voice strained. Adam's explanation, filled with patriotic zeal and military jargon, only deepened the confusion. John's head was spinning. He didn’t know what was happening.
