“I don’t understand,” Liam mumbled, the words a thin thread of sound. He paced his tiny dorm room, the announcement’s details still swirling in his mind. He’d just finished his first year. Everything had been going so well. He didn’t know what to do next.

He kept rereading the email on his phone, the words mocking him with their cold logic. He felt a dull ache in his chest, a sense of disorientation. He had planned everything. Now, everything was crumbling. He sank to his bed, utterly lost.
