Gemotions

The air felt thick, heavy with unspoken tension. Sarah instinctively touched the small diamond necklace she wore, tracing its familiar shape. Her palms were slick with perspiration. She'd told herself she was ready, that she was over it. Apparently, she was wrong.

She spotted him standing near the cake table, his back to her. She considered turning around, escaping through the nearest exit, but it felt cowardly. She took a deep breath, steeling herself.

Her friend, Jessica, approached, beaming. “Oh my god, you guys are going to be great together!” Sara's shoulders visibly slumped. She faked a smile and mumbled a congratulations. Jessica then said, “Oh look, there’s Mark. You should really go say hello.”
