The kitchen renovation had stalled. Clara, normally so organized, felt her mind racing. The contractor had gone for the day. She'd decided to take a break and clean, but had wound up in the pantry. And that’s when she saw it - a barely visible seam on the back wall.

She examined the wall, her movements quick, almost frantic. The wood felt different, newer than the rest of the pantry. She ran her hand along the seam, and her fingers brushed against a small catch. A jolt went through her body.

The wall yielded to her touch, revealing a small, dark room. The darkness seemed to breathe. She took a step back, her chest tight.
