He paced his small apartment, the hardwood floor creaking under his weight. The envelope containing the DNA test results lay unopened on the kitchen table. He’d ordered the test on a whim, fueled by a lifelong ache he hadn't fully understood until recently.

Liam ran a hand over his face, his jaw tight. He should be used to surprises, but this one felt different. He felt a fluttering sensation in his chest. His palms were slick with perspiration. It had taken a lot of courage to even purchase the test, but now that it was here, he was terrified to see what was inside.

He picked up the unopened envelope, his fingers trembling. He sat down at the table and stared at it for a long moment, before ripping it open.
