Liam was in the middle of a Fortnite match when the follower alert appeared. His fingers fumbled on the controller, his character getting eliminated almost instantly. He slammed the controller down, the plastic clattering against the desk. He hadn't posted anything embarrassing, had he?

He quickly navigated to his teacher, Mrs. Rodriguez’s, profile, his heart rate accelerating. He noticed she’d liked a post about a school play he was in, a role he'd almost chickened out of auditioning for. He felt a prickly heat rise up his neck.

The thought of facing her in algebra the next day was suddenly incredibly daunting. He imagined his face turning red. He grabbed his phone and started deleting old, cringeworthy posts. He spent the rest of the evening in a frenzy, feeling a deep unsettling sensation in his chest.
