He stared at the screen, his breath catching in his throat. David had meant to send a photo of a new guitar to his bandmate, Chris. Instead, he’d accidentally sent it to his grandmother. He'd added the caption: "Sick new axe, right?" He winced.

He envisioned his grandmother's response. Probably a lecture about the dangers of loud music and the importance of a good education. He felt a prickly heat rising in his chest.

The thought of explaining this to her filled him with a strange mix of discomfort and a mild amusement. He braced himself for a deluge of questions about his life choices. He braced himself to respond.
