"Just a few more stitches, then the last one will be yours, darling," Moira said, her voice tight, as she watched her daughter, Elara, hunched over a patchwork quilt. The quilt had been Moira's solace during her darkest days. Now, Elara had claimed it, her fingers flying across the fabric with an almost manic energy.

Moira shifted uncomfortably in her chair. The thread seemed to catch on her own hands. She ran a hand through her hair, the sensation strangely comforting. The house felt warm, almost too warm. The light made her feel a little strange.

Elara looked up, her face flushed with excitement. "Look, Mom! Almost done!" Moira managed a smile, but it felt strained.
