The air in the garage smelled of motor oil and burnt rubber. Liam watched his son, Finn, slide under the classic Mustang he’d painstakingly restored. He had invested time, money, and a lifetime’s worth of patience into it. Now, Finn treated it like it was his own. He was the same age Liam had been when his father had first introduced him to the thrill of a car.

Liam ran a hand over his jaw. His heart began to pound a little too hard. The way Finn spoke, his absolute certainty in his knowledge, left Liam feeling… disoriented. He watched Finn tighten a bolt, his brow furrowed in concentration. The garage doors were open, letting in the late afternoon sun. Liam took a step back, suddenly feeling like he needed more space.
