Gemotions

The sound jolted her awake. She sat up in bed, heart leaping into her throat. The world outside, which had been peacefully dark just moments before, now throbbed with a low, chaotic energy. She was unable to move.

It was the big oak in the Millers’ yard. They had neglected it for years, and he had been silently cursing its existence. The fear in her was consuming. It fell towards the house. She knew where this was going. She could feel the impending doom.

She threw back the covers and stumbled out of bed, her limbs heavy and uncoordinated. She had to see. She had to know. Her breath caught in her chest as she approached the window.
