The appointment was at ten. Nine-thirty now. Chloe stared at the framed photo on her desk, a picture of her and her mother, both smiling. A sharp pain bloomed in her stomach, a physical manifestation of her agitation. A sibling she'd never known? The paperwork, the DNA results, the lawyer's call... it all felt so unreal, like a poorly written novel. She stood up, needing to move, and began to pace. Her steps were hurried, her thoughts a jumble. She checked the time again: nine-thirty-two.
