The bell above the pawn shop door jingled, a sound that instantly transported Eleanor back to her childhood. She remembered her grandmother, her hands gnarled with age, always wearing a ring just like the one glittering in the display case. It was a simple, yet elegant, sapphire surrounded by tiny diamonds. Eleanor's breath hitched.

She entered the dim shop, the air thick with the scent of old leather and forgotten things. The ring seemed to beckon her forward, sparkling with a light that seemed to penetrate her very core. She cleared her throat, her voice surprisingly shaky. "Excuse me, may I see that ring?"

The shopkeeper, a man with a weary face, retrieved it without a word. As she held it, the cool metal settled against her skin, and she was instantly awash with vivid images: her grandfather’s booming laughter, the scent of her grandmother's lavender perfume, the warmth of the sun on her face during summer visits. She closed her eyes, and a single tear escaped.
