Gemotions

The constant crashing, banging, and hammering next door was the equivalent of a soundtrack of his own emotional history, and the sound of someone else’s future. David found it oddly comforting.

He remembered his grandfather’s house, and the simple joy of working with him. He hadn't been back in years. He should call.

He stood in the doorway, watching the workers. He felt an urge to build something, to create something. He looked around his house, at the comfortable life he had built, and felt a strange contentment. The sound of the hammers faded to a distant echo.
