Gemotions

The air inside the house felt thick, heavy with the aroma of pot roast and something else, something old and comforting that he couldn't quite put his finger on. He walked to the living room, stepping softly on the plush carpet he remembered from his childhood.

He sank down onto the couch, the cushions still bearing the slight indent of his father's body. He could almost feel his father's presence beside him. He felt the phantom of his father's arm around his shoulder.

He blinked hard, a strange pressure building behind his eyes. He realized the weight on his chest wasn't from the food, but something much deeper.
