"Did you take your shoes off?" her mother asked, her voice light, as if years hadn't passed since she was a teenager. It felt like yesterday, yet a lifetime ago.

The familiar creak of the floorboards beneath her feet brought a smile to her face. She passed her old bedroom. The door was open, and it looked just as she remembered it, although the things inside weren't there anymore.

She found herself lingering in the hallway, looking at the pictures on the wall. Each photograph was a snapshot of a different era, each telling a story of lives lived within these walls.
