Gemotions

The neon sign above "The Golden Spoon" flickered, a dying heartbeat. The diner, a fixture in her life for decades, was shuttering its doors. Martha felt a strange flutter in her stomach, a mixture of sadness and disbelief. She thought of her late husband, Harry, the many nights spent sharing milkshakes and conversation in the same booth.

A shiver ran down her spine. The clatter of cutlery, the rumble of the jukebox, the smell of frying onions... those sensations were suddenly fading.
