"Well, isn't this something," said Sarah, staring at the wallet she’d found on the bus. The dingy interior, the drone of the engine, the weary faces of the passengers – it all triggered something within her.

She opened it, the weight of the cash causing a momentary pause. A worn library card slipped out, with a name she didn't recognize. But taped to the back was a photograph: a girl, maybe ten years old, holding a book. She had the same kind of smile Sarah remembered having at that age.

She ran her fingers across the small photograph. All the feelings she’d been suppressing began to surface. Suddenly, the money seemed irrelevant. She leaned back, the sounds of the bus fading into the background, and she just thought about that little girl, and all the things that had happened since.
