He saw the sign in the distance, "Uncle Joe's BBQ." John’s stomach clenched, and he parked his car across the street. He’d taught his uncle Joe everything he knew about smoking meat.

He remembered the late nights, the secret rubs, the long hours spent perfecting the craft. It had been their thing. The secret to their great BBQ.

The aroma was unmistakable. It was his recipe.

He walked in, the smoky smell filling his lungs. The place was packed, people laughing, eating ribs, and enjoying themselves. He saw his uncle, older now, his face weathered, but still smiling, his eyes sparkling.

Joe saw him too, and his smile broadened. “John! Come on in! You gotta try the new ribs!”
John walked forward, and the two embraced. He could still taste the ribs, but this time, it was different.
