The campus library felt cavernous and intimidating, yet it was the only place Leo could think of to escape. He'd just confronted his roommate, Ben, about the breach of his privacy. The ensuing argument left him feeling… small. It felt like the day his parents divorced, and he didn’t know which house would be home.

He pulled his hood tighter, the fabric a meager attempt at a shield. He remembered his dog, a scruffy terrier that had been his best friend, always happy to see him after school. He wished he had the same kind of unconditional love.
