The vibrant colours of the sunset, a daily spectacle she’d watched with her own father every evening, painted the sky in hues of orange and purple. Lisa stood in the kitchen, washing dishes, the warm water a comforting sensation against her skin. She had just seen her daughter's phone ping, and was overcome with curiosity.

She picked it up. She had never been one to snoop. But she felt a strong longing for something. She wasn’t sure what. She flipped through the apps.

Her heart began to race. The messages were fleeting, the photos filtered, the language unfamiliar. Her daughter’s life felt… out of reach. She leaned against the counter, suddenly feeling the weight of the years, the distance that had grown between them.
