The scent of pine needles, a familiar fragrance from the Christmas tree he used to help his father decorate, brought a lump to Arthur’s throat. He remembered the feeling of excitement, of anticipation, the joy of the holidays. He found his son’s tablet on the kitchen island.

He knew he shouldn't, but the temptation, the yearning for a connection he wasn't sure he still had, was too strong. He scrolled through the photos, the videos, the comments. It was a window into a world he didn't understand.
