Gemotions

The morning sunlight sliced through the blinds, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air of Mark’s office. He read the email. The promotion race was underway. He took a sip of lukewarm coffee, the familiar bitterness doing little to stir his senses. The email seemed to bring the sun into the room, to make everything brighter.

He remembered when he first started. The old office, with its strange smells, and the new office, with its sterile air. The people he used to work with. He had made friends, found love, and created a new space for himself. He had changed. He thought about the small apartment he used to live in, with the view of the city. He thought about the person he used to be.

He looked down at his watch, and realized how much time had passed.
