The rhythmic clatter of the train against the tracks lulled her into a trance. Sarah stared out the window, watching the landscape blur past, each passing field and forest triggering a memory. She thought of simpler times, of youthful adventures and broken hearts.

Reaching her destination, she pulled out a worn canvas bag. Inside, nestled beneath her toothbrush, was an envelope. The handwriting was something she thought she’d forgotten, but instantly recognized. It was from Michael.

Her breath hitched as she sat on the park bench, the envelope resting in her lap. The cool breeze on her face suddenly felt heavy. It had been a lifetime ago, or so she thought.
